There are many signs indicating St James’ Way and the Via de la Plata Route, offering a wide variety of alternative routes. It is almost impossible to get lost.
The biggest problem you will find is as you enter Benavente via the “Iron Bridge” that formed part of the old railway line. The railway track is impracticable for cyclists because it is filled with ballast (gravel or crushed stone) which makes it impossible to cycle on.
There is an alternative to cross the bridge via trails and paths. The bridge has plates between the sleepers, except for the last 5 metres. However, you can pass on each side of the tracks to safely avoid the problem.
